The National Bank of Serbia announced the start of official talks between the Serbian authorities and an International Monetary Fund mission, beginning with a plenary meeting at the central bank. The discussions cover the first consideration of implementation of Serbia’s economic programme supported by the IMF’s Policy Coordination Instrument, approved on 9 December 2024, alongside the regular Article IV consultation. The IMF mission, led by Annette Kyjobe as the new head of mission for Serbia, will be in Belgrade from 28 May to 11 June. Serbia’s delegation is led by National Bank of Serbia Governor Jorgovanka Tabakovic, with participation from First Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Sinisa Mali and Deputy Prime Minister and Economy Minister Adrijana Mesarovic. The agenda includes current macroeconomic developments, short- and medium-term projections, delivery against programme objectives and progress on reforms, with the programme focused on macro-financial stability, fiscal discipline and a declining public debt path, energy-sector resilience and investment capacity, and structural reforms to support medium-term growth. The central bank noted that the Policy Coordination Instrument is advisory and does not provide financing, and that Serbia’s previous Article IV consultation was conducted in 2023.
