The Hong Kong Monetary Authority has issued a public scam alert highlighting press releases from banks on fraudulent websites, fake internet banking login screens, phishing emails and other scams reported to the HKMA, with hyperlinks to the banks’ notices available on the HKMA website. The affected banks are The Bank of East Asia, Shanghai Commercial Bank, Chong Hing Bank, OCBC Bank (Hong Kong) and Bank Julius Baer & Co. Ltd., with reports covering fraudulent websites and, for several banks, fraudulent internet banking login screens. The HKMA reiterated that banks do not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing customers to bank websites to conduct transactions and do not request sensitive information such as login passwords or one-time passwords by phone, email or SMS; individuals who have shared personal information or made transactions in response to these scams should contact the relevant bank and report the matter to the Hong Kong Police Force.
