Chile's Ministry of Finance published an update on a working day in the Tarapacá region led by its Gender Coordinator, Loreto Schnake, aimed at strengthening the economic autonomy of women and indigenous entrepreneurs, in collaboration with UN Women, BancoEstado and Arturo Prat University. The programme included a presentation on Chile’s National Financial Inclusion Strategy (ENIF), described as built on four pillars of financial inclusion (access, use, quality and financial wellbeing) under a consumer protection principle, with implementation intended to reduce gender gaps in the financial system. The ENIF was published in January 2025 and prepared by the Advisory Commission for Financial Inclusion (CAPIF) under the Ministry’s leadership, with the Ministry’s Gender Coordination responsible for embedding a cross-cutting gender perspective. Sessions also covered debt management, and digital financial security and fraud prevention, including phishing, identity theft and informal credit. A prototype culturally adapted mobile application, Trazalia, developed by UN Women’s Originarias programme in collaboration with CAPIF, was presented as a tool to simplify small business management and facilitate access to formal finance by converting daily business records into simple, standardised reports for use with financial institutions. Schnake indicated that using the app could reduce by around 50% the time and resources needed to provide documentation to a bank for processes such as a loan application or opening a business account, and noted ongoing work to enable additional functions such as receiving payments and paying taxes.
