The Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo launched its Global Money Week 2026 programme, awarded prizes to the winners of the Stock Market Learning Competition and a financial quiz for secondary school pupils, and opened applications for a new Young Economists Award to encourage innovative research in economics and finance. Global Money Week is an international campaign coordinated by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development that brings together central banks, financial institutions and education bodies to promote financial education and responsible financial decision-making among young people, with Kosovo’s central bank participating for the 13th consecutive year. In remarks at the opening ceremony, Governor Ahmet Ismaili highlighted the role of financial education and reiterated the bank’s focus on consumer protection and financial inclusion, including through a financial products and services comparison platform that provides transparency on fees and terms, and initiatives aimed at improving access to financial services for persons with disabilities. The Stock Market Learning Competition, run with German Sparkassenstiftung for International Cooperation, involved 42 students from eight economics and business faculties simulating trading on the Stuttgart virtual stock exchange, while six pupils from different secondary schools received prizes in the financial quiz. Further financial education activities, including competitions and awareness events for pupils and students across the country, are scheduled during the Global Money Week programme. Separately, the Governor met German Sparkassenstiftung Managing Director Niclaus Bergmann to discuss financial sector developments in Kosovo and ongoing cooperation on financial education and institutional capacity-building.
