The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) and the South African Reserve Bank have launched the sixth edition of the G20 TechSprint, a global competition seeking technology solutions that strengthen trust and integrity in scalable and open finance. The 2025 challenge sets three problem statements: verifiable, privacy-preserving digital identity solutions to build trust among financial institutions; consumer-consented credit data portability to improve small and medium-sized enterprises’ access to finance via secure cross-border sharing of credit information; and solutions to mitigate fraud and cyber risks to support wider adoption of fast payment systems. The programme is open to developers worldwide, with shortlisted teams invited to refine their proposals over an eight-week development period ahead of selection by an independent expert panel. One winner will be chosen per problem statement, with awards of USD 30,000 per category and stipends of USD 5,000 for shortlisted projects. Proposals must be submitted by 20 June 2025, and winners are due to be announced by November.
