The Central Bank of Mongolia, in collaboration with the World Bank Group, has published a report assessing the Mongolian banking sector’s exposure to climate change as of the reporting date, covering both physical risks and transition risks. The report sets out key findings, issues and recommendations on climate-related risks affecting banks. It frames the assessment against Mongolia’s vulnerability to climate-related events, including droughts, dzud, river floods and flash floods, and highlights the importance of evaluating both risks and opportunities for the economy and financial sector. The report is structured around the impacts of climate change in Mongolia, the sector’s climate-related financial risk exposure, data gaps and methodology limitations, and concluding remarks on the way forward.
