The Agency for Regulation and Development of the Financial Market of the Republic of Kazakhstan has reiterated the automatic loan payment relief available to citizens undertaking compulsory military service and published updated usage figures. According to the State Credit Bureau, 82,100 conscripts received payment deferrals on loans totaling KZT 23.5 billion between the mechanism’s introduction in August 2024 and June 1, 2026. Separately, the reported figures for the first half of 2026 cover 30,000 service members with loans totaling KZT 7.5 billion. Deferrals cover bank loans and microcredits throughout compulsory service and for 60 calendar days afterward. Principal and interest payments are suspended, and no interest accrues during the deferral. Borrowers need not apply, provide military certificates or sign additional agreements, as creditors receive service status information through exchanges involving the Ministry of Defense and credit bureaus. For debts already subject to recovery proceedings, relevant procedures may also be suspended during service in circumstances specified by law. The relief does not cancel debt, and repayment obligations remain afterward. The agency also reiterated that banks and microfinance organizations have been prohibited from granting new loans to conscripts since Aug. 31, 2025, with lenders required to check military service status through credit bureaus.
