Sweden's Finansinspektionen (FI) issued a consumer warning that fraudsters are contacting individuals and claiming to work for FI, including through phone calls and emails that may use variants of the authority’s name, FI’s logo, or the names of FI staff. The scammers may offer help to recover money previously lost in investment fraud or claim the consumer has funds in a supposed bank account. FI stressed that it never contacts consumers to help recover lost funds and does not assist with repayments for investment fraud losses. FI advised consumers not to activate BankID or bank security devices at someone else’s request, not to share login credentials, and not to allow unknown parties to remotely access their computer; suspected investment fraud should be reported to the police. Consumers were also directed to consult FI’s warning list and company register and the International Organization of Securities Commissions’ I-SCAN database for cross-border warnings.
