The Central Bank of Iraq published an update from its Center for Banking Studies reviewing delivery of the Center’s 2025 training plan, with implementation estimated at around 98%. The programme was positioned as part of the central bank’s banking reform agenda and designed to build sector capabilities in line with Financial Action Task Force standards, Basel III and International Financial Reporting Standards. Delivery was structured around internationally accredited professional certifications, short specialised courses and targeted workshops, with broad participation from staff across banks and public and private financial institutions. During 2025, the Center ran 12 qualifying programmes for international certificates covering anti-money laundering and terrorist financing, risk management, corporate governance and banking compliance, alongside 45 workshops on financial crimes, international sanctions, digital transformation and cybersecurity. The update also highlighted cooperation frameworks with regional and international training bodies including the Bahrain Institute of Banking and Financial Studies, the Egyptian and Jordanian Institutes of Banking Studies, the Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions, the University of Frankfurt and other specialist institutions in compliance, risk, audit and information systems.
