At a Global Finance and Technology Network roundtable held alongside the International Monetary Fund and World Bank annual meetings in Thailand, National Bank of Georgia Vice President Nino Jeladze stressed that faster payments must be matched by stronger security and operational resilience. Her remarks add a risk management focus to the central bank’s payments modernization, which includes an instant payment system planned for launch by the end of 2026. Jeladze said transactions completed within seconds require automated monitoring, real-time risk assessment and rapid identification of suspicious activity. Artificial intelligence can support these controls but may also enable new fraud methods. Financial institutions should therefore strengthen cybersecurity, fraud prevention and business continuity as payment technology advances.
