The Croatian Financial Services Supervisory Agency (Hanfa) published an update on its programme for Global and European Money Week, marked from 16 to 22 March 2026, setting out expanded lectures, campaigns and competitions aimed at improving financial literacy and fraud awareness among children and young people. The announcement is framed by new survey findings indicating that pupils generally value saving and responsible money management but often have only basic financial knowledge, with weaker understanding of more complex concepts among secondary school students. Hanfa reported results from an online survey of 748 primary and secondary school pupils on financial knowledge, behaviour and attitudes, alongside responses from 112 primary and 48 secondary school teachers. Pupils most often cited parents and family as their main source of information about money, followed by school and the internet, while educators broadly supported embedding financial literacy in curricula but highlighted gaps in specialist knowledge, age-appropriate teaching materials and systematic support. Teacher results were described as broadly comparable to the general population in the 2023 OECD/INFE financial literacy survey in Croatia conducted by Hanfa and the Croatian National Bank, with the update also pointing to challenges from digitalisation and increasingly sophisticated fraud schemes. During the week, Hanfa representatives will participate in events hosted by the Faculty of Economics and Business in Zagreb, the Croatian Chamber of Economy and the Ministry of Finance, and will continue delivering lectures in schools and universities. Activities also include a student debate organised with the Croatian National Bank on “Finance in the Era of Instagram and TikTok: Knowledge or Hype?”, plus the announcement of the winner of a secondary school video competition on spotting scams, with a smart board awarded to the winning school, while a primary school anti-scam competition remains underway.
