The Central Bank of Curaçao and Sint Maarten (CBCS) hosted the 56th Annual Monetary Studies Conference in Willemstad and Philipsburg from 12–14 November 2025, bringing together around 75 central-bank economists, academics and policy experts from across the Caribbean. Under the theme “Resilience through Transformation,” the programme examined how Caribbean economies can adapt to rising uncertainty and global turbulence, with CBCS President Richard Doornbosch highlighting higher productivity, inclusive growth and credible policy frameworks alongside the need to address systemic climate risks, geopolitical and trade tensions, and rapid technological change. The three-day agenda featured peer-reviewed research sessions with 19 working papers covering areas including growth and productivity, trade and tourism, climate and environmental sustainability, foreign direct investment, the future of money and payments, and public finances and fiscal sustainability. The Adlith Brown Memorial Lecture was delivered by Jeanette Semeleer, President of the Central Bank of Aruba, and the closing Governors’ Panel discussed the changing role of the US dollar amid rising stablecoins and the implications for exchange-rate regimes, reserve management, payment systems, capital flows and regional financial stability.
