Greece's Ministry of National Economy and Finance published remarks by Deputy Minister Giorgos Kotsiras at a dialogue forum on digital transformation and economic competitiveness, setting out the ministry’s drive to extend public-sector digital progress into the wider economy and tax administration. He framed the programme as focused on improving service for citizens and businesses, cutting bureaucracy and strengthening tax compliance, and pointed to the launch of a public consultation on a new customs code with digitisation at its core. Kotsiras highlighted digital measures including connecting POS terminals to cash registers and the myDATA system, which he said were decisive in generating an additional EUR 2bn of revenue in 2024. The draft customs code is intended to modernise provisions and procedures described as outdated, with expected benefits for the trading environment, transparency and investment conditions. The proposed customs code is now open for public consultation.
