Poland's Ministry of Finance reported on Finance and Economy Minister Andrzej Domański’s participation in the informal meeting of the Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) in Copenhagen on 19–20 September, where ministers focused on simplifying European Union rules to strengthen competitiveness while also assessing the economic impact of the geopolitical environment. Discussions covered the economic effects of EU legislation, with participants arguing that EU regulations often become overly complex and generate excessive bureaucracy, creating a case for simplification and lower regulatory burdens. In a session with central bank governors, ministers examined simplification in financial regulation, stressing that streamlining should not weaken financial stability and must preserve consumer and investor protection. The second day’s talks, including representatives of Ukraine, Canada, the United Kingdom and Norway, addressed political and economic tensions globally, with Domański highlighting what he described as escalating Russian provocations against NATO and citing airspace violations affecting Poland, Romania and Estonia. The meeting also covered the need for international cooperation with like-minded countries, EU economic security and strategic autonomy in areas such as defence, technology, financing and access to critical materials, alongside national structural reforms spanning labour markets, education, innovation, digitalisation, capital markets and public administration.
