The National Bank of Moldova announced an international conference, “New Technology for Old Markets”, to be held in Chișinău on 19 September in partnership with the National Bank of Romania and the Bank of France. The event is positioned as the first edition of an annual series and will be run in a hybrid format with in-person participation and online access. The agenda focuses on digital transformation in financial markets, including case studies from Central and Eastern Europe, and a panel on women in finance. Sessions will also cover distributed ledger technology (DLT) and its potential implications for cross-border payments and the development of central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), alongside discussions on financial inclusion and leadership in fintech. Confirmed speakers include François Villeroy de Galhau (Governor, Bank of France) delivering a keynote on financial innovation, Jon Frost (Head of Innovation and the Digital Economy, Bank for International Settlements), Cosmin Marinescu (Deputy Governor, National Bank of Romania) in the opening, and Jasmina Selimović (Governor, Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina) participating in the “Women in finance” panel moderated by National Bank of Moldova Governor Anca Dragu.
