Sweden's Riksbank has taken an initial Executive Board decision on the direction for an extensive renovation of its Brunkebergstorg building, opened in 1976, following studies indicating that most of the building’s technical infrastructure needs full replacement. The work is expected to replace systems including air and ventilation, fire safety and lighting, while also adapting the premises to support modern working needs. As the building is Blue Listed, the renovation and modernisation is expected to take several years and be carried out with particular care to preserve cultural and historical value. To limit disruption, the Riksbank has already rented office space in central Stockholm for parts of its operations and is now seeking additional external premises for remaining functions during the renovation. The relocation is currently estimated to start in the latter part of 2026, but the timing may change.
