The Central Bank of Montenegro has launched the implementation of the WE Finance Code in Montenegro and introduced the second generation of participants in its Women on Boards programme, initiatives supported by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management. The programmes are positioned as practical measures to improve women’s access to finance and increase women’s representation in corporate governance. The WE Finance Code Montenegro programme was presented as part of a global initiative aimed at improving access to financing for women-led or women-managed companies, including women-led micro, small and medium enterprises. The Women on Boards programme is intended to help prepare the business environment for implementing the EU gender-balance directive, with the Central Bank Governor referencing targets for mid-2026 of at least 40% women among board members and 33% of all executive positions in large private and state-owned enterprises; the WE Finance Code National Coalition in Montenegro is led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development Nik Gjeloshaj and NLB Bank Management Board President Martin Leberle. The second Women on Boards cohort comprises 21 women from the private and public sectors who will undertake specialised training in leadership and strategic decision-making in the coming months.
