The Australian Securities & Investments Commission (ASIC) reported that Darryl Brian Mapleson has been sentenced for insider trading in Beacon Minerals Limited, receiving 12 months’ imprisonment to be released upon entering a AUD 5,000 recognisance to be of good behaviour for two years, and a AUD 60,000 fine. The Supreme Court of Western Australia sentenced Mapleson on 6 August 2025 for one count of insider trading under section 1043A(1) of the Corporations Act 2001. ASIC said Mapleson obtained inside information through his role at BM Geological Services Pty Ltd, which provided geological services to Beacon Minerals, and through being engaged as the company’s Competent Person for Australian Securities Exchange announcements on drilling results. The offence involved procuring Rosdarem Pty Ltd and Rosdarem Investments Pty Ltd, where he was a director, to buy 6,792,850 Beacon Minerals shares between 21 and 24 January 2017 before the stage one drilling results at the Jaurdi Gold Project were announced; after the 31 January 2017 announcement, the share price rose 33%. The matter was prosecuted by the Commonwealth Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions following a referral from ASIC, after Mapleson first appeared on the charges on 21 May 2021.
