The National Bank of Serbia announced that the European Payments Council has given a positive assessment of its application to participate in the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) Credit Transfer (CT) scheme for euro payments executed for direct and indirect budget users. The central bank will be included in the European Payments Council register from 13 March 2026, with SEPA CT transaction processing to be operationally enabled from 5 May 2026 once technical and operational implementation is completed. Participation in SEPA is intended to allow non-cash euro payments under the National Bank of Serbia’s jurisdiction to be made on standardised terms across the 41-country SEPA area, covering all 27 European Union Member States, the European Economic Area, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and several other jurisdictions including Serbia. The National Bank of Serbia also positioned itself as the supervisory authority for domestic accession, monitoring and coordinating Serbian commercial banks’ participation in SEPA against regulatory, technical and operational standards.
