The Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo published a readout of Governor Ahmet Ismaili’s meeting with Germany’s Ambassador Jörn Rohde, focused on financial sector developments and the central bank’s reform agenda, including work linked to joining the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) and strengthening payments infrastructure. The central bank highlighted financial stability and strong sector performance, and set out activities and plans under its legal objectives and Strategic Plan, including advances to the supervisory regulatory and legal framework, technical infrastructure needed for SEPA membership, initiatives on access to finance and sustainable finance, and progress on the SEPA pre-application process and development of the Eurosystem’s instant payments system (TIPS). Discussions also covered challenges such as accession to the Green Card motor insurance system and listing Kosovo on global payment platforms, for which institutional support was requested. The parties noted ongoing cooperation with German regulatory authorities, including Deutsche Bundesbank support on management of Kosovo’s international reserves and broader Eurosystem-related assistance, and expressed readiness to further advance cooperation within their legal mandates.
