HM Treasury has appointed Nationwide Building Society Chief Executive Dame Debbie Crosbie as the new Women in Finance Champion, succeeding Aviva Chief Executive Dame Amanda Blanc after five years in the role. The appointment is intended to support the HM Treasury Women in Finance Charter, which now covers more than 440 firms committed to improving the representation of women in senior leadership roles across UK financial services. Under Blanc’s tenure, senior female representation in key finance roles rose from 32% to 36%. Crosbie will take up the unpaid, direct ministerial appointment from 1 January 2026, reporting to the Economic Secretary to the Treasury, with Terms of Reference setting the role’s duration through 31 May 2027. The Terms of Reference provide for monthly reporting to HM Treasury, require advance liaison and HM Treasury sign-off for publications and public communications relating to the Charter, and state that HM Treasury will not provide funding or remuneration; Nationwide may support Charter activity through resources, reimbursement of actual costs, and potentially a secondee.
