The Central Reserve Bank of El Salvador published an explainer on electronic signatures and the process for obtaining a certified electronic signature certificate issued by the Bank in its capacity as an authorised Certification Service Provider. The note outlines that the Electronic Signature Law equates simple and certified electronic signatures with handwritten signatures. It defines a certified electronic signature as electronically generated data that is logically associated with an electronic document or data message, created using a secure signature-creation device, and uniquely linked to the signature holder. The Bank states it has been authorised to issue electronic signature certificates since 19 June 2023 under resolution UFE-004-PSC-2023, and sets a price of USD 15.00 when paid by bank transfer via Transfer365 or USD 15.39 when paid via a card payment gateway, with a fully online issuance process and a one-year certificate validity.
