The Superintendency of Banks of Ecuador has issued a formal information request as part of its supervisory work over the national financial system, seeking anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing due diligence information related to individuals identified in financial intelligence analyses tied to the so-called Case Encuentro. The request was made in coordination with the Financial and Economic Analysis Unit under the institutions’ interagency agreement, covers the period from January 2021 to December 2024, and does not in itself imply any determination of liability. The request is grounded in the authority’s supervisory and AML legal powers and seeks details on financial products, customer onboarding files and know-your-customer records, AML risk profiles, alerts generated by transaction monitoring systems, and any Suspicious Transaction Reports that may have been filed. The Superintendency will review the information submitted and conduct the corresponding due process in coordination with the competent authorities.
