The Czech National Bank announced that Governor Aleš Michl received the Central Banking Award 2025 for world’s best governor at a ceremony in London, recognising his efforts to bring inflation down and safeguard the value of money in the Czech Republic, alongside a forward-looking approach to issues affecting the global financial landscape. The award was presented during the Central Banking Summer Meetings in London on 11–12 June. The jury highlighted that, under the Bank Board’s strategy led by Michl, inflation fell from 17.5% in July 2022 to 2% in February, March and June 2024, with a full-year average of 2.4%, the lowest since 2018, and noted estimates that inflation is expected to remain at a similar level in 2025. The jury also cited the CNB’s management of international reserves, measures to improve operational efficiency, its role in the resolution of Sberbank CZ’s insolvency, and support for the central bank-operated instant payment system. The CNB noted this is Michl’s second major international accolade in 2025, following The Banker magazine naming him Central Banker of the Year for Europe in January.
