Peru's Superintendency of Banking, Insurance and Pension Funds (SBS) delivered training to 100 members and board-level representatives from 11 savings and credit cooperatives (Coopac) in the departments of Ayacucho and Apurímac, aimed at strengthening financial education and understanding of how the cooperative system operates. The programme, led by SBS Superintendent Sergio Espinosa Chiroque, included the “Finances for you” session covering personal resource management, the importance of saving, responsible use of credit, financial consumer rights and duties, and scam prevention. Participants also received sessions on transparency and the complaints and reports module, corporate governance, control bodies and risk management, and credit risk assessment. The SBS noted that Ayacucho has the highest cooperative presence, with 222,000 depositor members, deposit balances close to PEN 1 billion, and member contributions of PEN 252 million.
