The Philippine Securities and Exchange Commission has launched a revamped SEC Academy, a free, more accessible online education platform designed to improve financial literacy and help Filipinos manage personal finances, invest responsibly, and identify and avoid investment scams. The initiative sits alongside the SEC’s coordination with Congress to make financial literacy a core, mandatory subject in the high school curriculum. Accessible at academy.sec.gov.ph, the platform offers online courses delivered by policymakers and practitioners from the SEC and other government agencies, as well as industry experts and leaders, covering topics from saving and budgeting to starting businesses and spotting predatory schemes. The relaunch marked the start of Investor Protection Week 2025, with the opening program featuring public-facing discussions on saving, investing, scam detection, and responsible borrowing, including a panel with representatives from the SEC’s Financing and Lending Companies Department, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Consumer Protection and Market Conduct Office, the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group, and FUSE Financing, Inc. On the education policy track, the SEC pointed to its prior support for House Bill No. 686 in the 19th Congress, which would integrate investor education into the enhanced basic education program under Republic Act No. 10533. Investor Protection Week 2025 is set to continue with additional activities at the SEC headquarters and extension offices nationwide, while work with Congress on embedding mandatory financial literacy in the high school curriculum remains ongoing.
