The Croatian National Bank opened the 31st Dubrovnik Economic Conference in Dubrovnik, outlining a two-day programme spanning experiences with quantitative easing and quantitative tightening, pandemic-era inflation and US interest rate uncertainty, and questions around whether currency wars could follow tariff wars. The second day of the conference is set to cover central bank communication and digital currencies, as well as the impact of climate change on the banking system. Claudio Borio of the Bank for International Settlements will deliver the keynote lecture on inflation targeting as a global monetary standard, while CNB Governor Boris Vujčić will chair a panel on the differing monetary policy approaches of major central banks with panellists including Isabel Schnabel (European Central Bank), Megan Greene (Bank of England), Patricia Mosser (Columbia University) and Miao Yanliang (China International Capital Corporation). Conference papers have been published on the Croatian National Bank’s website.
