Kuwait’s Capital Markets Authority (CMA) published an update on its work with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry on the Smart Trade License Project, a government-wide initiative to unify and digitise commercial licensing processes through a shared system connecting relevant agencies. Cooperation under a memorandum of understanding has progressed through an electronic linkage phase between the CMA and the Ministry’s systems to exchange data on the status of companies’ activities. The CMA has also expanded the dataset available through the smart licence system by adding information on CMA-licensed companies, including positions and jobs to be registered, enabling the Ministry to query these data electronically. With the first phase of interconnection completed this year, work is underway on a second phase intended to integrate applications for securities activities licences into a single digital process using application programming interfaces (APIs) for periodic, direct data exchange. Technical specifications and required data for this phase have been defined jointly by the CMA and the Ministry within a shared executive plan.
