The Central Bank of Russia released the April issue of its Regional Economy report, finding that consumer demand declined across most macroregions in February–March and that overall economic activity slowed in most industries. Price growth in March was little changed from February and remained elevated. The report notes lower sales in some macroregions for electronics and household appliances, construction materials, and home improvement goods, while public catering outlets in many macroregions saw a fall in customer traffic. Some regions recorded stronger demand for new cars in March, and retailers’ short-term demand expectations improved in April. On the supply side, furniture manufacturers in Central Russia and ferrous metallurgy enterprises in the North-West cut output amid cooler demand, while fertiliser production in the South increased on the back of strong demand and investment to expand capacity; special topics in this issue cover labour market performance by sector and region, tourism and passenger transport, and the 2026 sowing campaign.
