The Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) published a statement supporting Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s announcement, made during his official visit to Abu Dhabi, that Malaysia will explore a digital finance policy that recognises cryptocurrency and blockchain technology. The SC framed the initiative as aligned with its priorities to position Malaysia in the global digital finance landscape alongside the country’s broader digital transformation agenda. The SC noted it has been shaping the regulatory framework for digital assets, including cryptocurrency, since 2019, and described the regulated digital asset market as covering digital asset exchanges, initial exchange offering operators, fund managers and custody service providers. SC Chairman Dato’ Mohammad Faiz Azmi said the regulator is ready to work with relevant agencies, including Bank Negara Malaysia, to further develop Malaysia as an innovative and responsible digital finance hub.
