The Chair of the UK Parliament’s Treasury Committee has written to Lloyds Banking Group seeking clarification on an IT incident in which some customers were reportedly able to view information relating to other people’s accounts through the bank’s app. In the letter, Dame Meg Hillier describes the incident as an “alarming breach of confidentiality” and requests information including the number of customers affected, the nature of the information that became visible, and expected compensation payouts. The request is framed against the Committee’s previous findings that nine of the top banks had accumulated at least 33 days of outages over the preceding two years. The Chair asks for further updates one month after Lloyds’ first reply and again in six months.
