Honduras' Ministry of Finance published a readout from the LXV Ordinary Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (BCIE), hosted in Tegucigalpa, focusing on the scale of BCIE-backed investment underway in Honduras and the bank’s role in supporting the government’s development priorities. In remarks as Honduras’ governor to the BCIE, Finance Minister Christian Duarte pointed to a portfolio of 15 active projects in Honduras exceeding USD 1.7bn (around HNL 45bn), spanning road infrastructure, health, education, financial inclusion, water and sanitation, agriculture and energy. He highlighted BCIE financing of USD 300m for the El Tablón multipurpose dam (Stage I) and noted that a tender for 1,500 MW of clean energy will be backed by a BCIE guarantee. The release also cited the BCIE’s 2024 results presented to governors, including approvals of more than USD 2.25bn in projects and the bank’s share of 50% of multilateral financing in the region. The meeting was reported as concluding with progress on the bank’s internal governance and financial strengthening, alongside a roadmap to expand its impact over the next 30 years.
