The HKMA reiterated that banks will not send SMS or emails containing embedded hyperlinks directing customers to banks’ websites to carry out transactions, and will not ask for sensitive information such as login passwords or one-time passwords by phone, email or SMS. Anyone who has provided personal information or carried out financial transactions in response to the relevant scams is advised to contact the bank and report the matter to the Crime Wing Information Centre of the Hong Kong Police Force.
