The Australian Securities & Investments Commission (ASIC) has appointed a three-member panel to conduct its Inquiry into the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) group, focusing on frameworks and practices for governance, capability and risk management. Rob Whitfield will chair the panel, with Christine Holman and Guy Debelle appointed as members. The panel will be asked to make recommendations to address any identified shortcomings or deficiencies in governance, capability and risk management across the ASX group, and will provide ASIC with a report by 31 March 2026; ASIC will publish the report and use it to inform any next steps it may take. ASIC linked the Inquiry to ongoing concerns it shares with the Reserve Bank of Australia about ASX’s ability to maintain stable, secure and resilient critical market infrastructure, and said the panel and Commission will be supported by an ASIC Secretariat led by Senior Executive Jane Eccleston, expected to include secondees from the Reserve Bank of Australia, the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority and the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.
