The National Bank of Serbia reported that Governor Jorgovanka Tabaković met Swiss National Bank Governor Martin Schlegel in Washington on the margins of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank Group Annual Meetings, focusing on global macroeconomic uncertainty and the policy priority of preserving stability. Discussions covered Serbia’s recent macroeconomic results, including its investment rating and SEPA membership, alongside shared themes such as exchange rate stability, the role of high foreign exchange reserves in absorbing external shocks, and gold reserves as a safe-haven asset. Tabaković also highlighted National Bank of Serbia measures aimed at protecting living standards during the global inflation period, stating that the central bank’s response to the pass-through from European Central Bank tightening to Serbian housing-loan rates resulted in instalments for some borrowers being 50% lower than they would otherwise have been; she also underscored the importance of policy coordination with government. The release described an established bilateral agenda that has included workshops on payment systems, liquidity management, international cooperation, monetary policy frameworks, green finance and innovation, and noted a standing practice of annual reciprocal visits between the two central banks. It also pointed to the approaching 110th anniversary of bilateral relations and Serbia’s participation in the Swiss-led constituency at the Bretton Woods institutions.
