The Czech National Bank unveiled an extraordinary CZK 10,000 gold coin weighing one troy ounce to mark the 1100th anniversary of the symbolic start of the reign of Wenceslas I, Duke of Bohemia. In remarks at the presentation, Governor Aleš Michl noted the central bank’s gold holdings had risen from eight tonnes when he joined the Bank Board to 65 tonnes, with a stated target of 100 tonnes by 2028. The coin is minted from 999.9 fine gold, weighs 31.107 g and measures 34 mm in diameter and 2.5 mm in thickness. Total mintage is 7,200 pieces across standard and proof quality; the Bank Board selected the winning design by Zbynek Fojtu following an art competition, featuring the Rotunda of St Vitus and a flaming eagle emblem on the obverse and a helmeted depiction of Wenceslas on the reverse. The denomination does not equal the sale price, which is higher and reflects factors including the gold price and production costs. The coins were minted by Ceská mincovna in Jablonec nad Nisou and are available via selected contractual partners from 23 September 2025, as the Czech National Bank does not sell numismatic material directly to the public.
