South Korea's Ministry of Economy and Finance announced that Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Koo Yun-cheol will travel to New York and Washington, D.C. from the evening of 13 April to hold a Korea economy investor briefing, meet major global asset managers and participate in a series of international finance meetings, including the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors meeting, a G7 special session and the International Monetary and Financial Committee (IMFC). In New York on 14 April, Koo is scheduled to host an investor relations session for major global investment institutions, covering Korea’s economic fundamentals, policy responses to developments in the Middle East, foreign exchange and capital market reforms, and the government’s core policy direction including the AI transition. The programme also includes one-to-one meetings with senior executives from Apollo Global Management, BlackRock and PIMCO to discuss global economic and financial market conditions and explain Korea’s reform efforts. In Washington, D.C., Koo will attend the first 2026 G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors meeting on 16–17 April, held alongside the International Monetary Fund and World Bank Spring Meetings, with sessions expected to cover constraints on economic growth and global imbalances; he will also join a G7 special session on 17 April addressing global imbalances and critical minerals, ahead of the France-chaired G7 finance meeting in Paris on 18–19 May to which Korea has been invited. On 17 April, Koo will participate in the IMF’s IMFC meeting as an IMF Governor, where 25 IMF Governors are due to discuss the global economic situation, policy responses and the IMF’s role. Bilateral meetings are also planned with the heads of the IMF, World Bank, Inter-American Development Bank and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, as well as with finance ministers including those of France, Australia and Uzbekistan, focused on exchanging views on global economic issues, Korea’s crisis response and bilateral economic cooperation.
