The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission announced the formation of a new Crypto Task Force to develop a clearer, more comprehensive regulatory framework for crypto assets. Acting Chairman Mark T. Uyeda appointed Commissioner Hester Peirce to lead the agency-wide effort. The Task Force will draw staff from across the SEC and engage with Commission staff and the public to clarify regulatory boundaries, create realistic paths to registration, develop disclosure frameworks, and target enforcement resources more judiciously. It will operate within the statutory framework set by Congress, coordinate technical assistance to Congress on potential changes, and work with other federal agencies including the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, as well as state and international counterparts. Richard Gabbert will serve as Chief of Staff and Taylor Asher as Chief Policy Advisor. The SEC indicated the Task Force expects to hold roundtables in the future and is inviting public input in the interim.
