The Luxembourg Ministry of Finance published a readout of Finance Minister Gilles Roth’s participation in the informal Eurogroup and Economic and Financial Affairs Council meetings in Copenhagen. Ministers reviewed the Eurogroup work programme through June 2026, discussed the economic outlook and revisited the digital euro, while ECOFIN focused on simplifying financial regulation to reduce administrative burdens and costs and support European competitiveness. On the digital euro, the discussion identified points of convergence that are intended to enable the Danish Presidency to advance negotiations on the corresponding legislative text. ECOFIN also held exchanges with the International Monetary Fund on structural reforms to strengthen productivity and competitiveness and how to overcome political obstacles to deliver lasting results at national and European Union level, and discussed the economic consequences of geopolitical developments with finance ministers from Ukraine, the United Kingdom, Norway and Canada. On the margins, Roth held a bilateral exchange with Belgian Finance Minister Jan Jambon and linked the competitiveness agenda to more innovation, less bureaucracy, and maintaining stability, social cohesion and European unity internationally.
