The Hong Kong Monetary Authority issued a public alert on press releases from banks reporting fraudulent websites, fake internet banking login screens, phishing emails and other scams, with links to the banks’ notices available on the HKMA website. It reminded customers that banks do not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing them to bank websites to carry out transactions and do not ask for sensitive information such as login passwords or one-time passwords by phone, email or SMS. Anyone who disclosed personal information or carried out financial transactions in response to the scams should contact the relevant bank and report the matter to the Hong Kong Police Force Crime Wing Information Centre.
