The European Central Bank published balance sheet figures showing total assets of EUR 6,117,260 million, down EUR 2,680 million from the previous week. The decrease was driven mainly by a EUR 10,261 million fall in securities held for monetary policy purposes and a EUR 1,246 million drop in claims on non-euro area residents denominated in foreign currency. These moves were partly offset by a EUR 3,395 million increase in lending to euro area credit institutions related to monetary policy operations and a EUR 4,033 million rise in other assets. On the liability side, liabilities to euro area credit institutions related to monetary policy operations fell by EUR 17,746 million to EUR 2,350,966 million, reflecting declines in current accounts of EUR 2,974 million and the deposit facility of EUR 14,771 million. Offsetting increases included EUR 2,375 million in banknotes in circulation, EUR 9,592 million in liabilities to non-euro area residents denominated in euro, and EUR 2,648 million in liabilities to other euro area residents denominated in euro, including a EUR 5,225 million rise in general government deposits.
