The Central Bank of West African States published an update on the West African Economic and Monetary Union’s Interoperable Platform of the Instant Payment System (PI-SPI), outlining progress in connecting participants and instructing regulated institutions to complete the steps needed to connect and provide services to customers by 30 June 2026. PI-SPI, launched on 30 September 2025 and available 24/7, has 80 connected participants comprising 59 banks, nine electronic money institutions, 11 microfinance institutions and one payment institution. A further 42 institutions are running live tests in the production environment and have been asked to accelerate their process and open PI-SPI services to customers as soon as possible. Banks, electronic money institutions, payment institutions in the Union and microfinance institutions supervised by the Banking Commission of the West African Monetary Union are required to finalise the technical and administrative preparations for connection and ensure effective service delivery no later than 30 June 2026.

The Central Bank of West African States reported on the rollout of the West African Economic and Monetary Union’s Interoperable Platform of the Instant Payment System (PI-SPI), noting that 80 participants are already connected and 42 additional institutions are conducting live tests. It instructed all banks, electronic money institutions, payment institutions and supervised microfinance institutions in the Union to complete preparations and ensure effective PI-SPI service delivery to customers by 30 June 2026.
