The National Payments Council, set up by and chaired by the Central Bank of Slovenia, has stepped up its consumer-awareness work on the right to a basic payment account by releasing public leaflets summarising key information about the product. The materials, branded with the slogan “Nobody without a payment account”, will be distributed via various contact points. A basic payment account is a payment account at a bank or savings bank that provides access to the most commonly used payment services and is aimed at people who do not hold a current account in Slovenia. The lower monthly fee is intended to make payment services more accessible to vulnerable groups, and consumers can request a basic payment account at any bank or savings bank. The leaflets will be available through locations including social work centres, financial administration offices, information points for foreign nationals, and non-governmental organisations. The Central Bank of Slovenia will continue monitoring how banks and savings banks uphold the right to a basic payment account as part of its regular supervisory activities.
