The Central Bank of Bolivia (BCB) announced the release of a Bicentennial commemorative banknote and commemorative coins in gold and silver, alongside a Bs2 coin intended for nationwide circulation, marking 200 years since Bolivia’s founding. The pieces were formally presented in Sucre at the Casa de la Libertad in a handover ceremony to President Luis Arce. The commemorative banknote’s obverse features Bartolina Sisa, Túpak Katari, Juan Azurduy de Padilla, Alejo Calatayud, Moto Méndez, José Manuel Baca “Cañoto”, Simón Bolívar and Antonio José de Sucre, together with historical and cultural elements and the Casa de la Libertad. Its reverse includes a transparent window showing Illimani, a Salar de Uyuni landscape and a pink dolphin. The gold and silver coins depict the National Coat of Arms and the façade of the Casa de la Libertad and are described as numismatic pieces; as of 4 August, both these coins and the commemorative banknote are available for purchase at BCB counters, while the Bs2 coin is legal tender for everyday use.
