The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) published a scam alert following reports from banks of fraudulent websites, fake internet banking login screens, social media impersonation and other scams targeting customers. The alert relates to a fraudulent website and internet banking login screen linked to Fubon Bank (Hong Kong) Limited and a fraudulent social media page linked to Bank of Singapore Limited, with links to the banks’ own press releases provided on the HKMA website. The HKMA also reminded the public that banks will not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing customers to bank websites to carry out transactions, and will not request sensitive information such as login passwords or one-time passwords by phone, email or SMS. Anyone who has provided personal information or conducted financial transactions through or in response to the scams should contact the relevant bank using details in the corresponding bank press release and report the matter to the Hong Kong Police Force.
