The Central Bank of Chile marked the centenary of its establishment with a ceremony led by its Board, chaired by Governor Rosanna Costa, and attended by President Gabriel Boric and senior national authorities at the Bank’s Agustinas Street headquarters. In her remarks, Costa framed monetary and institutional stability as the result of long-term policy priorities and responsible decision-making, and highlighted the contribution of successive generations of Bank staff. Boric emphasised the Central Bank’s independence from political cycles, its collegial decision-making structure, and the role of the executive and parliament in the appointment process. The event also included the presentation of three commemorative medals recognising staff, former leadership and national authorities, awarded to trade union leader Ricardo Iturra, Andrés Bianchi as president of the first autonomous Board, and President Boric. The Bank recalled that it was created by Decree Law No. 486 on 22 August 1925 and that its technical and financial autonomy was established in 1989 under Law 18.840, with a mandate focused on currency stability and promoting the stability and effectiveness of the financial system, including the normal functioning of domestic and external payments.
