Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly issued a decision assigning Hamdy Mahmoud Badawy to serve as Assistant Chairman of the Egypt Financial Regulatory Authority. Badawy has more than 26 years of experience in criminal investigation and combating financial crime. His career included senior roles in economic crime enforcement, including leadership responsibilities covering currency crimes, smuggling, capital market offences and illegal money collection, with work focused on money laundering and terrorist financing. Within the Financial Regulatory Authority, he has overseen the central administration for anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing and supervised the central administration overseeing professionals in the insurance sector, and has also served as Deputy Assistant Chairman. He is also an accredited lecturer at the authority’s Financial Services Institute, delivering AML/CFT training programmes for the non-banking financial sector.
