The Thailand Office of Insurance Commission (OIC) has officially launched the “Restaurant Peace of Mind with Insurance Protection” project to promote embedded insurance by integrating insurance coverage into restaurant operations, aiming to strengthen consumer confidence and formalise risk management for operators. The programme centres on public liability insurance to cover accidents or damage to customers’ bodies and property, and includes food poisoning coverage under an “Aunjai Plus” format. OIC framed the initiative against the scale of Thailand’s restaurant sector, citing more than 330,000 operators employing over 1.1 million people, and tourism receipts of around THB 3.5 trillion per year with 20% attributed to food and beverage spending. OIC also referenced a 2025 pilot in Khon Kaen involving 30 restaurants, where customer claims were processed conveniently and quickly. For 2026, OIC plans to expand the project nationwide with the Thai General Insurance Association and provincial business associations, including outreach and capability-building activities in Bangkok, Chonburi, Chiang Mai, Phuket, and Khon Kaen, as well as business matching between restaurant operators and insurers.
