Bulgaria's Ministry of Finance reported that Deputy Minister Metodi Metodiev participated in the Thessaloniki International Fair, where the programme focused on Bulgaria’s preparations for joining the euro area and the planned introduction of the euro on 1 January 2026. The Bulgarian pavilion, organised by the Bulgarian-Greek Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Green Transition Forum, was dedicated to Bulgaria’s euro area accession, including discussion of progress made and upcoming preparatory activities. Metodiev framed the move to the single currency as a step aimed at supporting economic stability and convergence, and said the changeover process would be transparent and convenient for citizens, businesses and institutions. He also highlighted expected practical effects for Bulgaria–Greece economic ties, including the removal of currency risk and lower transaction costs, which he said would facilitate trade and travel between the two countries.
