The Central Bank of Peru published trade balance data showing Peru recorded a merchandise trade surplus of USD 23,821 million in 2024, up from USD 17,678 million in 2023 and 3.5 times the 2019 pre-pandemic level. Exports increased 12.4% year on year to USD 75,916 million, while imports rose 4.5% to USD 52,095 million. Export growth was broad-based, with traditional exports reaching USD 55,218 million (+13.0%) and non-traditional exports USD 20,483 million (+11.0%). In December 2024, the trade surplus totalled USD 2,333 million, USD 87 million higher than a year earlier, as exports rose 9.2% to USD 6,986 million driven by a 9.4% increase in average export prices in line with higher international metal prices; imports increased 12.1% to USD 4,653 million, with gains across categories led by industrial inputs and durable consumer goods.
